Cabinet Specifications

A well-planned kitchen starts with the cabinets behind the doors. This guide explains our Duracab cabinet construction, common unit dimensions and the details to check when choosing a complete unit or a cabinet on its own.

Cabinet construction

The cabinet, also called the carcass, forms the storage structure of your kitchen. Doors, drawer fronts and decorative panels complete the visible finish.

Feature Specification
Carcass board 18 mm MFC (melamine-faced chipboard) carcass construction. Rear-panel arrangements depend on the unit type.
Assembly Cam-and-dowel construction, with wooden dowels.
Edging 1 mm PVC on the front edge and 0.4 mm edging on non-facing edges.
Cabinet colours White, Light Grey and Hickory Oak, subject to the selected size and product.
Base cabinet backs Standard base cabinets are listed with 18 mm backs. Oven base units are supplied without a full back panel.
Wall and larder backs Confirm the rear-panel specification for your chosen unit with our team before ordering if this is important to your installation.
Service space The listed Duracab base and larder units have a 50 mm service void. Check appliance and pipework requirements separately.
Supply format Duracab cabinet-only units are supplied flat-pack for assembly.

Cabinet sizes at a glance

All measurements below are in millimetres and refer to the listed Duracab cabinet sizes. Base and larder heights exclude legs. Finished kitchen dimensions must also allow for doors, panels, the worktop and installation clearances. Width ranges describe available product options, not made-to-measure sizing.

Unit type Height Width Depth
Standard base 720 150–1000 560
Drawer base: 1 cutlery + 2 pan drawers 720 400–1000 560
Oven base 720 600 560
L-corner base 720 900 × 900 corner footprint 560
Standard larder 1970 300–600 560
Tall larder 2150 300–600 560
Larder oven housing 1970 or 2150 600 560
Standard wall 720 300–1000 300
Tall wall 900 300–1000 300
L-corner / diagonal corner wall 720 or 900 600 × 600 corner footprint 300
Bridging wall 290 or 360 600 or 1000 300
Boiler housing wall 900 600 450

Not every width is available in every colour. For example, the listed 450 mm drawer base is not currently offered in Hickory Oak. Check the available variant on the product page.

What is included?

Complete kitchen units: use the individual listing to confirm the cabinet, door or drawer-front combination and hardware supplied. Our listed Cotswold hinged units include their coordinating door or doors and soft-close hinges. Drawer and specialist units have their own contents.

Duracab cabinet-only units: choose coordinating fronts and hardware separately unless the listing explicitly includes them. Base and larder units list cabinet legs and cover caps/pegs; wall units list wall brackets and cover caps/pegs. Hinges are sold separately on these cabinet-only listings. The listed larder cabinets also exclude drawer runners.

Drawer-pack exception: the Duracab “1 × Cutlery 2 × Pan Drawer” base unit includes one cutlery drawer and two soft-close pan drawers. This does not mean drawer packs are included with every base cabinet.

Check handles, plinths, end panels, cornice, pelmet, storage accessories and appliance fittings as separate items in your kitchen plan. Wall brackets do not remove the need for suitable fixings for your particular wall.

Planning your layout

  • Measure the room: record wall lengths, ceiling height, openings, floor levels and the positions of existing services.
  • Allow for the finished installation: add the specified leg height and worktop thickness when calculating the final worktop level. Do not treat the 720 mm carcass height as the finished height.
  • Plan door clearance: allow space beside walls, appliances and corner units so doors and drawers can open properly.
  • Check appliance requirements: cabinet dimensions alone do not establish compatibility. Your installer must check the appliance dimensions, ventilation, access and installation instructions.
  • Check corners carefully: L-shaped and diagonal cabinets use different front arrangements. The listed standard Duracab L-corner wall unit uses two independently opening doors, rather than a bifold arrangement.
  • Choose suitable support: wall construction, cabinet contents and worktop material affect fixing and support requirements. Follow the installation instructions and use a competent installer.

Matching cabinets and doors

All doors are supplied undrilled and will require drilling before installation.

A cabinet’s nominal width is not the same as the finished door width. Match each front to the required height, width, hinge arrangement and opening direction. See our Door Specifications before ordering replacement fronts or combining components.

Delivery, assembly and care

Check the delivered parts against your order before assembly, drilling or cutting. Keep components dry and protected during installation. Follow the supplied assembly instructions, and check each unit is level and secure before fitting fronts and worktops.

For day-to-day cleaning and protection from moisture, read Kitchen Care. Delivery details are available on our Delivery Information page.
